Geoff MooreGeoff Moore
Geoff Moore is a 1983 graduate of the University of Rhode Island. He
lives with his wife Gillian and their three daughters in Toronto. Geoff
has been working as a sail consultant for North Sails since November of
2000. Prior to that Geoff spent ten years running his own sail loft in
Newport, Rhode Island. He still enjoys strong ties to Newport and its
sailing industry.
Geoff has extensive experience in all aspects of sailing. He holds
multiple titles in such small boats as Interclub Dinghies, JY15, J/22s,
J/80s, Sonar’s, Snipe’s, Star’s, Shield’s, But most people know Geoff
as an accomplished J/24 sailor. He is the current 2004 Midwinter
champion, and has held the North American title twice.
Since joining North Sails Geoff is spending more of his time aboard
larger and larger boats. He is well known on Lake Ontario as a J/35
and J/105 expert. Geoff has won the Mumm 30 North American
Championship as tactician, and finished second in the 2004 Worlds. In
the Fall of 2002 Geoff narrowly missed wining the Farr 40 World
Championship in Paradise Island, Bahamas. In the Spring of 2002 Geoff
held the position of watch captain aboard the Farr 60 Carrera during
their win of the 900-mile "Miami to Baltimore" race. He also sailed to
a fourth in the 2003 Chicago-Mac race aboard the Farr 40 Morigan. He
has also had success with IMS fleets and even modern 12 Meters.Â
Twice now Geoff has supplied the sails and worked as jib trimmer aboard
the Royal Canadian Yacht club’s successful bids to win back and then
defend the Canada’s Cup. He was also a winning team member during the
last two season’s Knickerbocker Trophy, a professional match race.
Although Geoff’s passion is sailboat racing, his sail making skills are
extensive. He works with a multitude of North’s cruising clients and
is well versed with all the various sail handling systems, and their
sail requirements. Today’s modern cruising boats are becoming more and
more sophisticated. Geoff’s technical abilities and his understanding
of how boats work is advantageous to both Geoff and his long list of
happy clients.Â
More than anything Geoff enjoys using his passions to introduce new
people to sailing. He has a friendly inquisitive character which makes
him an excellent teacher. During the winter months, Geoff can be found
teaching North U courses.
